Hillel -
I'm not sure my advice will help much - but I "guess" that your problem is
only a font issue.
I have debian sid and no problems with Hebrew LaTeX - but am NOT using the
same font as you tried to use. I mostly still use the old (ugly) fonts -
as they seem to be everywhere Hebrew LaTeX is found - so work without
problems almost everywhere.
Im my case - I see mf files at:
/usr/share/texmf/fonts/source/hebrew/jerus10.mf
Your error message reports problems with the "rdavid" font - which is
probably an attempt to use the Windows based "david.ttf" font. This would
not be installed by default in Debian - and neither would the font mapping
files needed to use it. That requires some work to configure.
The links on the IvriTeX site about using TTF Hebrew fonts in LaTeX is no
longer active. I can send you a copy of the tgz file that was linked to.
Try changing the font it is using - to something "standard" from the old
4 (names not exactly how TeX calls them): jerusalem, tel-aviv, dead-sea,
and old-jaffa, and see how that goes. If you see the Hebrew then you need
to work on the font configuration you want.
You might also look into using the Culmus fonts with LaTeX. See
http://culmus.sourceforge.net/
