Tel Aviv University School of Mathematical Sciences Seminar on Applied Mathematics Date: Tuesday June 8th, 2004, 3:10pm Place: Schreiber Bldg, Room 309 Speaker: Shlomo Engelberg. Jerusalem College of Technology. Joint work with Prof. Eitan Tadmor. Title: A New Approach to Edge Detection. Abstract: In the late 90's Gelb and Tadmor introduced concentration factors to detect edges using spectral data. In this talk we describe a related technique for detecting edges in spectral data. We produce detectors that are in a well defined sense optimal. We show how to design detectors that function "optimally" in the presence of both noise and smooth signals and we discuss to what extent our definition of optimal is reasonable. __________________________________________________________ Dr. Adi Ditkowski Department of Applied Mathematics School of Mathematical Sciences phone: 972-3-640-5987 Tel Aviv University, fax : 972-3-640-9357 Tel Aviv, 69978 Israel email: [log in to unmask] __________________________________________________________
